Massachusetts Bay Colony
|
Geography
Massachusetts is a beautiful colony with mountains, thousands of trees, and rivers. Dense amounts of forested areas has lead to establish a strong lumber industry as well as good trapping and hunting grounds. Living further inland, has caused some problems for farmers because the soil is very poor in that area, due to rocky terrain and hills. If you enjoy living in coastal towns, Gloucester or Boston is the place for you were you may find a job in fishing or ship building.
Main Economic Activities/ Occupations
The majority of the populations is Puritans, then pilgrims, and then there's a small population of indentured servants and slaves. Depending on your class you can start your own business as a blacksmith, copper or barrel maker, seamstress and cabinet maker etc. This colony first began as a small humble agricultural colony, but not anymore !! Massachusetts has a strong buisness in fishing, lumber, and farm products. Its products are exported in lively trade carried out by ships built and manned in Massachusetts.

Political system / Religion The 1st govener of Massachusetts Bay Colony was John Endecott. He governored for 16 years and was a little bit of a strict ruler who persecuted those with opposing views aginist Puritans. The laws are mixed and based on religious views as Puritans. A warning to anyone with different beliefs than Puritans, I would not recommend Massachuetts as the number one colony to move to. Witchcraft is a serious matter that will be handled on trial, so anything suspected close to witchcraft will be looked into ! Education Massachusetts offers a very good education including one of the best colleges throughout all America. Depending in which town you live can affect the amount of education your darling children may recieve "towns of fifty families hire a schoolmaster who would teach children to read and write.... towns of a hundred families must have a grammar schoolmaster who could prepare children to attend Harvard College." (Unknown) Cultural Attractions Newbury and Newburyport are two locations that take you back into the Colonial era. Buildings located in this colonial landscape have a story behind every door, that tells a little piece of history. |
